Northland Power Inc. confirmed on October 15, 2026 that every one of the 73 turbines at its Hai Long offshore wind development in the Taiwan Strait has been installed and is now producing electricity.
The Toronto-based company said the completion of turbine installation and generation across the full 1.0 GW project substantially advances Hai Long toward final completion and lowers the construction risk that remains on the venture.
The announcement also confirmed that Hai Long remains on schedule to receive final permitting approvals in the first half of 2027, consistent with the plan the company had previously outlined, and that overall construction spending continues to align with original cost expectations.
The Hai Long Project sits roughly 45 to 70 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County, in the Taiwan Strait. Northland is building the project while holding a 30.6% interest, alongside Mitsui & Co., which owns 40%, and Gentari International Renewables Pte. Ltd, which holds 29.4%. When fully complete, Hai Long is expected to generate sufficient electricity to supply more than one million Taiwanese households. The project's revenue foundation rests on a 30-year offtake agreement that provides contracted revenues designed to contribute to Northland's long-term cash flow generation.
Christine Healy, Northland's President and Chief Executive Officer, framed the completed turbine installation and full-project generation as proof of the company's capacity to deliver complex, large-scale offshore wind undertakings safely.
Healy credited the joint project teams, contractors, suppliers, and partners for their dedication, expertise, and collaboration in advancing what she described as one of Asia's largest offshore wind projects. She added that Hai Long showcases the company's project execution capabilities and reinforces its ability to develop, construct, and operate energy infrastructure around the world.
Northland noted that the achievement draws on nearly two decades of offshore wind experience built up across Europe and Asia, and said the result reinforces its disciplined approach and established record in developing, constructing, and operating large-scale energy infrastructure.
Northland Power positions itself as a global power producer headquartered in Canada, delivering electricity through a mix of offshore wind, onshore renewables, battery storage, and natural gas-fired generation.
The company operates from offices in seven countries and holds, in whole or in part, 3.6 GW of gross operating generating capacity, 2.4 GW currently under construction, and a development pipeline of approximately 8 GW. The company's common shares have been publicly traded since 1997, along with its Series 1 and Series 2 preferred shares, all listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the tickers NPI, NPI.PR.A, and NPI.PR.B respectively.
Northland's October 15 announcement includes forward-looking statements within the meaning of applicable securities laws, intended to convey information about management's current expectations and plans. The company warned that actual results may differ materially from what is expressed or implied, and that anticipated events may or may not occur.
These statements, covering expectations for commercial operations timing, final permitting, and project costs, rest on material factors and assumptions, including the provisions of contracts to which Northland or one of its subsidiaries is a party.
