Ocergy's OCG-Wind Platform Begins Service at Culzean While OCG-Data Buoy Starts Three-Year Mediterranean Mission

Ocergy, the Oakland-based developer of sustainable offshore solutions, announced on Oct. 26, 2026, that its OCG-Wind 3MW floating wind platform has been towed to the UK North Sea, where it will supply 20% of the electric power demand of the Culzean gas platform. The company also confirmed the commercial readiness of its second product line, the OCG-Data measurement buoy, now operating in the French Mediterranean.
Floating Wind Platform Supplies Power to North Sea Gas Field
According to the company's statement, the dual announcements mark a shift from demonstration to commercial readiness across both product lines. Load-out and turbine assembly of the OCG-Wind platform were completed successfully before the tow near Culzean in August. Ocergy says the platform was designed to deliver floating wind on an industrial scale, using modular steel components that can be fabricated efficiently in steel workshops and assembled entirely with bolted connections at a port near the wind farm site. In a commercial setting, this approach allows platforms to be produced and installed at a rate of one per week — the pace the company says is needed to deliver utility-scale floating wind farms on time and on budget.
Charlotte Berge, Executive Vice President Renewables at Archer, described the achievement as the realization of Ocergy's design vision. Archer has been a partner and shareholder in Ocergy since its Series A and serves as the main contractor for Culzean.
"As Ocergy's partner and a shareholder since its Series A, and as Archer Wind is the main contractor for Culzean, we have successfully implemented Ocergy's vision of an industrialized, fully bolted floating wind platform," Berge said. "The floater components were fabricated in Greece, transported by sea and assembled at Wergeland in Norway. Bolted connections allow fabrication to be separated from assembly: components can be built wherever capacity exists and assembled quickly close to the site. That is exactly what the industry needs to reach a rate of one platform per week."
Measurement Buoy Starts New Mission at Golfe de Fos
On the data side, the OCG-Data buoy has been redeployed in the French Mediterranean for MARE (Mesures et Analyses Radar pour l'Environnement), a radar monitoring project at the Golfe de Fos 1 floating wind site. The new deployment follows a three-year stint as part of the BLUE ORACLE project and will run for a further three years. An inspection before redeployment showed the platform and its flanges in excellent condition, according to the company.
Ocergy used the opportunity to upgrade the buoy's power management system, which is 100% renewable, and its data interface. With this track record, OCG-Data is now ready for commercial contracts and becomes Ocergy's second product line. Benoîte Chenut, Floating Offshore Wind Project Director at EDF power solutions, outlined the goals of the MARE project.
"With MARE, our objective is to develop an innovative environmental monitoring programme for the Méditerranée Grand Large floating offshore wind project including bird and bat monitoring and to achieve an unprecedented level of accuracy for a site located more than 25 kilometres offshore," Chenut said. "This environmental data will help us refine the project's design and development, while also supporting the implementation of measures tailored to the specific conditions of the offshore wind farm."
Second Buoy Bound for Japan in 2027
A second OCG-Data buoy is under construction for the Mutsu-Ogawara offshore wind test site in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. The buoy forms part of a research project led by Kyuden Mirai Energy and funded by NEDO, Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization. According to Ocergy, the project is progressing well, with installation planned for 2027.
Leadership Cites Delivery on Schedule and Cost
Dominique Roddier, CEO of Ocergy, said the milestones validate the founding premise of the company. "When we founded Ocergy, we set out to prove that floating offshore platforms could be designed for mass production: simple, bolted and fast to install. Culzean shows that it works," Roddier said. "At a time when many floating offshore wind projects face delays, in September we completed, on time and on budget, the retrofit of our BLUE ORACLE buoy and its redeployment for MARE. With two proven products, we're ready to scale."
Company Background
Ocergy develops cost-effective floating technologies for the offshore industries. Its portfolio comprises OCG-Wind, an industrialized floating wind platform, and OCG-Data, an autonomous floating measurement buoy powered entirely by renewable energy that collects metocean and environmental data.
