Northland Power Inc. confirmed on October 7, 2026 that turbine installation is complete at its Baltic Power offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea, a 1.1 GW facility and the first offshore wind development in Poland.
The Toronto-headquartered developer, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under NPI, said the installation campaign has wrapped at the site located roughly 20 kilometres offshore. More than one-third of the 76 turbines in place are already producing electricity. First power was reached in July 2026, when offshore wind delivered electricity to Poland's national grid for the first time in the country's history.
With all turbines erected, Baltic Power is now moving through the commissioning phase. Northland said the project remains on schedule to reach commercial operations in 2026, and that overall costs are tracking in line with original expectations. Once fully operational, the 1.1 GW facility is expected to produce roughly 4 terawatt-hours of electricity each year.
The company states that this equals about 3 percent of Poland's current electricity demand and would supply more than 1.5 million Polish households. Revenue for the project is anchored by a 25-year contract-for-difference arrangement, which Northland says provides certainty over contracted income.
Christine Healy, Northland Power's President and Chief Executive Officer, said the finished installation shows the company can execute complex, large-scale offshore wind work safely. She pointed out that Northland entered Poland in 2021 and has since remained committed to building the nation's energy future by pairing local expertise and ingenuity with the company's global offshore wind experience.
"Baltic Power demonstrates what can be achieved when local knowledge and international expertise come together to deliver a first-of-its-kind project," Healy said in the release. She added that as commercial operations approach, the project will supply long-term contracted power to the Polish grid, reinforce national energy security, and back the shift to a more resilient and diversified energy system.
Baltic Power is jointly owned by Northland Power and ORLEN. Northland characterizes the development as strengthening its position in what it views as one of Europe's most attractive power markets, and says the project reflects its disciplined method of developing, financing, constructing and operating large-scale energy infrastructure. T
he company says its nearly two decades of offshore wind experience continue to support growth of a diversified portfolio aimed at electrification, energy security, and rising demand for dependable low-carbon power.
Northland describes Baltic Power as a cornerstone of its multi-technology presence in Poland. Alongside the wind project, the company is concurrently building two grid-scale battery energy storage facilities in the country with a combined capacity of 300 MW / 1.2 GWh. Northland says the pairing of these assets reflects its diversified approach to Poland's energy transition.
Northland Power is a global power producer headquartered in Canada, generating electricity from offshore wind, onshore renewables, battery storage and natural gas-fired facilities. It maintains offices in seven countries and owns or holds an economic interest in 3.6 GW of gross operating generating capacity, with 2.4 GW under construction and a development pipeline of approximately 8 GW. The company says this footprint represents nearly four decades of delivering large-scale energy infrastructure.
