OEG, a global energy solutions provider, has landed a contract from Danish developer Ørsted to supply temporary power during construction of the Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm. The award covers two distinct phases of the offshore programme: the commissioning of the offshore converter station and the turbine installation and commissioning phase.
For the converter station works, OEG will deploy temporary power equipment onboard a jack up vessel for the full duration of the commissioning activities. The configuration consists of five 200kVA generators and two 300kVA generators running in synchronisation. According to OEG, this bespoke arrangement allows the units to deliver enhanced temporary power of up to 1,400kVA to the offshore converter station.
The second strand of the scope sees OEG supplying temporary power for the turbine installation and commissioning phase. This involves 150kVA generators combined with OEG's own 3,000 litre mountable fuel tanks.
The company characterises the arrangement as a compact modular setup, designed to maximise power output for the client's asset while keeping the equipment footprint small on the transition piece, where available space is restricted.
Rob Williams, Technical Manager for OEG's temporary power team, said the company has spent recent months working closely with the Ørsted construction management team to ensure it delivers the correct bespoke technical solutions for the project. He added that OEG looks forward to maintaining this close collaboration as the project progresses through to completion.
Alida Lewis, OEG's Head of Temporary Power, said the company is pleased to be working with Ørsted on yet another project and is excited to be expanding its support to cover not only the WTG package but also the offshore converter station.
The new contract extends an established partnership between the two companies. OEG's temporary power team previously supported the construction phases of both Hornsea 1 and Hornsea 2 offshore wind farms, along with other Ørsted projects around the world.
Beyond temporary power, OEG's topside division provides an integrated portfolio of specialist services across the lifecycle of wind energy projects. Its offering spans blade maintenance, high voltage solutions, offshore technologies, marine coordination and balance of plant, all delivered by experienced onshore and offshore personnel.
